Summary-
Universities UK report says the proportion of full-time undergraduates living in halls has fallen from 35% to 27% in the same period. students living at home has increased from 12% to 20% over the past 10 years, figures suggest. Since 1998 students have had to pay tuition fees, which have now risen to £3,000 a year. The study shows a slight rise in the number of students from poorer areas going to university - up 1% on 1998/99. The study shows a reduction in the number of students leaving university and finding themselves unemployed, but it stresses that this must be seen in the context of the overall improvement in employment within the UK.
Reaction:
I can understand that students stay at home. To go to college/university is thesedays unbelievably expensive, almost only for the élite! Only youngsters who have a lot of money or parents with money have the chance to study? If you tell me, this is not fair, educations should be for everyone, not just for a small precentage, this is ridiculous!

New exams system to be revealed
Summary
The new national exam to replace Standard Grades is set to be unveiled by the Scottish Government.Children now aged 10 will be the first to sit a raft of new compulsory qualifications designed to test numeracy and literacy. They will be tested in fourth year by a mixture of an exam and assessment. The new exams are linked with changes to the school curriculum which will be fully implemented in some schools from this August - and across Scotland the following year. But teaching leaders have voiced concern about the way the Curriculum for Excellence is being implemented, with almost half of teachers claiming to have little confidence.
Reaction:
This article reminds me to the Dutch system. The Netherlands also had some changes regarding schoolpolice and the ''newlearning''. Everyone was very negative about it, but eventually school system improved..for still there are still dissatisfaction by some teachers! Sometimes it isn't possible to please everyone!

Reaction:
It is unbelievable that a serial sex attacker walks for such a long time in England. The Police also believe that Reid was responsible for a further 71 attacks on women who were walking alone at night! This man is mentally sick! He has to be in removed from normal society. If you assault so many women, there is something extremely wrong in your mind. In my opinion man such as Reid should get castrated! Guarantee that Reid never assault a women again ;)

Reaction:
The European elections are sort of vague... What are the real changes for the countries and what are the changes for the smaller countries? And is it really for the best that Europe gets more involved in our things in England or in the Netherlands? My opinion is NO.. what's yours.

Hummer gets sold!!
General Motors is to sell its Hummer brand to China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery. GM bought the Hummer brand in 1999. Its sales have suffered as the gas-guzzling performance and military image have become less popular. GM says it hopes the deal will save about 3,000 jobs in the US. Hummer will remain based in the US. GM sells it for an undisclosed amount.
Reaction:
It is smart that they want to sell the Hummer brand, especially if you know that the world economy is shrinking. People are a fraid to lose their job and as result of that people don't buy large purchases. And also for the people who work in that company keep their jobs this way. It's a smart idea of GM!

Al-Qaeda 'kills British hostage
Al-Qaeda 'kills British hostage
Summary-
Mr Dyer and a Swiss tourist were kidnapped in Niger after visiting a festival. A group of al-Qaeda militants kidnapped in Niger in January, but he was being held in Mali. The group had said it would kill Mr Dyer if the British government refused to release radical Muslim cleric Downing Street says there is "strong reason to believe" that a British citizen has been executed by this group.Abu Qatada is awaiting extradition to Jordan, where he was convicted of terrorism offences in his absence and faces life in jail.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mr Brown said: "We have strong reason to believe that a British citizen Edwin Dyer has been murdered by an al-Qaeda cell in Mali.
"I utterly condemn this appalling and barbaric act of terrorism. Mr Brown said: "I want those who would use terror against British citizens to know beyond doubt that we and our allies will pursue them relentlessly, and that they will meet the justice they deserve," he said.
Reaction:
It is very sad that innocent people get killed for nothing and that there are terrorist attacks! The worst thing is that people do this in the name of Islam. Like it is okay, to kill in name of a God! Islam does not say kill innocent people. Islam does not say battle with people who don’t have the same believe, no the islam says life in peace and harmony! The people who think they are doing the right thing for their religion are very ignorant. I would advice them to read the Koran before approving something that islam disapproved!
